Surah Ash-Shu'ara (The Poets)

طسٓمٓ

26:1 Ta Seen Meem.

تِلْكَ ءَايَـٰتُ ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

26:2 These are the verses of the clear Book.

لَعَلَّكَ بَـٰخِعٌ نَّفْسَكَ أَلَّا يَكُونُوا۟ مُؤْمِنِينَ

26:3 You [Prophet] may destroy yourself with grief because they will not become believers.

إِن نَّشَأْ نُنَزِّلْ عَلَيْهِم مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ ءَايَةً فَظَلَّتْ أَعْنَـٰقُهُمْ لَهَا خَـٰضِعِينَ

26:4 If We wished, We could send down to them a sign from the sky, and their necks would stay bowed before it.

وَمَا يَأْتِيهِم مِّن ذِكْرٍ مِّنَ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مُحْدَثٍ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهُ مُعْرِضِينَ

26:5 No fresh reminder comes to them from the Most Compassionate without them turning away from it.

فَقَدْ كَذَّبُوا۟ فَسَيَأْتِيهِمْ أَنۢبَـٰٓؤُا۟ مَا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ

26:6 They have already denied, so news will soon come to them of what they used to mock.

أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ إِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَمْ أَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍ كَرِيمٍ

26:7 Have they not looked at the earth, how many fine kinds We have caused to grow in it?

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:8 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:9 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَإِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبُّكَ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱئْتِ ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ

26:10 Remember when your Lord called Moses: “Go to the wrongdoing people,

قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ أَلَا يَتَّقُونَ

26:11 the people of Pharaoh. Will they not be mindful?”

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ أَن يُكَذِّبُونِ

26:12 He said, “My Lord, I fear they will call me a liar.”

وَيَضِيقُ صَدْرِى وَلَا يَنطَلِقُ لِسَانِى فَأَرْسِلْ إِلَىٰ هَـٰرُونَ

26:13 My chest tightens, and my tongue will not speak freely, so send Aaron too.

وَلَهُمْ عَلَىَّ ذَنۢبٌ فَأَخَافُ أَن يَقْتُلُونِ

26:14 They also have a charge against me [for a man I killed], and I fear they will kill me.

قَالَ كَلَّا ۖ فَٱذْهَبَا بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَآ ۖ إِنَّا مَعَكُم مُّسْتَمِعُونَ

26:15 He said, “No. Go, both of you, with Our signs. We are with you, listening.

فَأْتِيَا فِرْعَوْنَ فَقُولَآ إِنَّا رَسُولُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:16 Go to Pharaoh and say, ‘We are messengers from the Lord of all worlds:

أَنْ أَرْسِلْ مَعَنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

26:17 Send the Children of Israel with us.’”

قَالَ أَلَمْ نُرَبِّكَ فِينَا وَلِيدًا وَلَبِثْتَ فِينَا مِنْ عُمُرِكَ سِنِينَ

26:18 He said, “Did we not raise you among us as a child, and did you not spend years of your life among us?

وَفَعَلْتَ فَعْلَتَكَ ٱلَّتِى فَعَلْتَ وَأَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

26:19 Then you did that deed of yours, the one you did, and you were ungrateful.”

قَالَ فَعَلْتُهَآ إِذًا وَأَنَا۠ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

26:20 He said, “I did it then, when I was one of those who had lost their way.

فَفَرَرْتُ مِنكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِى رَبِّى حُكْمًا وَجَعَلَنِى مِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:21 So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgment and made me one of the messengers.

وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَىَّ أَنْ عَبَّدتَّ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

26:22 And is this the favor you hold over me, that you enslaved the Children of Israel?”

قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:23 Pharaoh said, “And what is the Lord of all worlds?”

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ

26:24 He said, “The Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, if you are certain.”

قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهُۥٓ أَلَا تَسْتَمِعُونَ

26:25 He [Pharaoh] said to those around him, “Are you not listening?”

قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

26:26 He [Moses] said, “Your Lord and the Lord of your earliest forefathers.”

قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَكُمُ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُرْسِلَ إِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُونٌ

26:27 He [Pharaoh] said, “This messenger of yours, the one sent to you, is surely mad.”

قَالَ رَبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُمْ تَعْقِلُونَ

26:28 He [Moses] said, “The Lord of the east and the west and all that is between them, if you would use reason.”

قَالَ لَئِنِ ٱتَّخَذْتَ إِلَـٰهًا غَيْرِى لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ

26:29 He [Pharaoh] said, “If you take any god other than me, I will surely put you among the prisoners.”

قَالَ أَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَىْءٍ مُّبِينٍ

26:30 He [Moses] said, “Even if I bring you something clear?”

قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهِۦٓ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ

26:31 He [Pharaoh] said, “Then bring it, if you are truthful.”

فَأَلْقَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِينٌ

26:32 So he threw down his staff, and suddenly it was a clear serpent.

وَنَزَعَ يَدَهُۥ فَإِذَا هِىَ بَيْضَآءُ لِلنَّـٰظِرِينَ

26:33 And he drew out his hand, and suddenly it was white for all to see.

قَالَ لِلْمَلَإِ حَوْلَهُۥٓ إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَسَـٰحِرٌ عَلِيمٌ

26:34 He [Pharaoh] said to the chiefs around him, “This is surely a learned magician.

يُرِيدُ أَن يُخْرِجَكُم مِّنْ أَرْضِكُم بِسِحْرِهِۦ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُونَ

26:35 He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic. So what do you advise?”

قَالُوٓا۟ أَرْجِهْ وَأَخَاهُ وَٱبْعَثْ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَـٰشِرِينَ

26:36 They said, “Put him and his brother off for now, and send gatherers through the cities [to summon magicians].”

يَأْتُوكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيمٍ

26:37 They will bring you every skilled magician.

فَجُمِعَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ لِمِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

26:38 So the magicians were gathered for the appointment on a day everyone knew.

وَقِيلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ أَنتُم مُّجْتَمِعُونَ

26:39 And the people were told, “Will you gather together,

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ ٱلسَّحَرَةَ إِن كَانُوا۟ هُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ

26:40 so that we may follow the magicians if they are the winners?”

فَلَمَّا جَآءَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ قَالُوا۟ لِفِرْعَوْنَ أَئِنَّ لَنَا لَأَجْرًا إِن كُنَّا نَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبِينَ

26:41 When the magicians came, they said to Pharaoh, “Will we really have a reward if we are the winners?”

قَالَ نَعَمْ وَإِنَّكُمْ إِذًا لَّمِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ

26:42 He said, “Yes, and then you will surely be among those closest to me.”

قَالَ لَهُم مُّوسَىٰٓ أَلْقُوا۟ مَآ أَنتُم مُّلْقُونَ

26:43 Moses said to them, “Throw whatever you are going to throw.”

فَأَلْقَوْا۟ حِبَالَهُمْ وَعِصِيَّهُمْ وَقَالُوا۟ بِعِزَّةِ فِرْعَوْنَ إِنَّا لَنَحْنُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ

26:44 So they threw their ropes and their staffs, and said, “By Pharaoh’s might, we will surely be the winners.”

فَأَلْقَىٰ مُوسَىٰ عَصَاهُ فَإِذَا هِىَ تَلْقَفُ مَا يَأْفِكُونَ

26:45 Then Moses threw his staff, and there it was, swallowing what they had faked.

فَأُلْقِىَ ٱلسَّحَرَةُ سَـٰجِدِينَ

26:46 So the magicians fell down in prostration.

قَالُوٓا۟ ءَامَنَّا بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:47 They said, “We believe in the Lord of all worlds,

رَبِّ مُوسَىٰ وَهَـٰرُونَ

26:48 the Lord of Moses and Aaron.”

قَالَ ءَامَنتُمْ لَهُۥ قَبْلَ أَنْ ءَاذَنَ لَكُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ لَكَبِيرُكُمُ ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَكُمُ ٱلسِّحْرَ فَلَسَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ۚ لَأُقَطِّعَنَّ أَيْدِيَكُمْ وَأَرْجُلَكُم مِّنْ خِلَـٰفٍ وَلَأُصَلِّبَنَّكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

26:49 [Pharaoh] said, “You believed in him before I gave you permission? He must be your chief, the one who taught you magic. Soon you will know. I will cut off your hands and feet on opposite sides, and I will crucify you all.”

قَالُوا۟ لَا ضَيْرَ ۖ إِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا مُنقَلِبُونَ

26:50 They said, “No harm. We are returning to our Lord.

إِنَّا نَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لَنَا رَبُّنَا خَطَـٰيَـٰنَآ أَن كُنَّآ أَوَّلَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

26:51 We hope our Lord will forgive us our sins, because we were the first believers.”

۞ وَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِىٓ إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ

26:52 And We revealed to Moses, “Travel by night with My servants [the Children of Israel]. You will be followed.”

فَأَرْسَلَ فِرْعَوْنُ فِى ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ حَـٰشِرِينَ

26:53 Then Pharaoh sent men into the cities to gather forces:

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَشِرْذِمَةٌ قَلِيلُونَ

26:54 “These people are only a small band,

وَإِنَّهُمْ لَنَا لَغَآئِظُونَ

26:55 and they have enraged us,

وَإِنَّا لَجَمِيعٌ حَـٰذِرُونَ

26:56 while we are all on guard.”

فَأَخْرَجْنَـٰهُم مِّن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

26:57 So We drew them [Pharaoh and his people] out of gardens and springs,

وَكُنُوزٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ

26:58 and treasures, and an honorable place to stay.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

26:59 So it was, and We made the Children of Israel inherit it all.

فَأَتْبَعُوهُم مُّشْرِقِينَ

26:60 So they [Pharaoh and his forces] chased them at sunrise.

فَلَمَّا تَرَٰٓءَا ٱلْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَـٰبُ مُوسَىٰٓ إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ

26:61 Then, when the two hosts saw each other, Moses’ companions said, “We will surely be overtaken!”

قَالَ كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّ مَعِىَ رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ

26:62 He said, “No. My Lord is with me; He will guide me.”

فَأَوْحَيْنَآ إِلَىٰ مُوسَىٰٓ أَنِ ٱضْرِب بِّعَصَاكَ ٱلْبَحْرَ ۖ فَٱنفَلَقَ فَكَانَ كُلُّ فِرْقٍ كَٱلطَّوْدِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

26:63 So We inspired Moses: “Strike the sea with your staff.” It split, and each part was like a great mountain.

وَأَزْلَفْنَا ثَمَّ ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

26:64 And there We brought the other host close.

وَأَنجَيْنَا مُوسَىٰ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ

26:65 And We saved Moses and everyone with him.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

26:66 Then We drowned the other host.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:67 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:68 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَٱتْلُ عَلَيْهِمْ نَبَأَ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

26:69 And recite to them [the Meccans] the news of Abraham.

إِذْ قَالَ لِأَبِيهِ وَقَوْمِهِۦ مَا تَعْبُدُونَ

26:70 When he said to his father and his people, “What do you worship?”

قَالُوا۟ نَعْبُدُ أَصْنَامًا فَنَظَلُّ لَهَا عَـٰكِفِينَ

26:71 They said, “We worship idols, and we remain devoted to them.”

قَالَ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَكُمْ إِذْ تَدْعُونَ

26:72 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?”

أَوْ يَنفَعُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَضُرُّونَ

26:73 Or do they benefit you, or harm you?

قَالُوا۟ بَلْ وَجَدْنَآ ءَابَآءَنَا كَذَٰلِكَ يَفْعَلُونَ

26:74 They said, “No, but we found our forefathers doing this.”

قَالَ أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ

26:75 He said, “Have you really looked at what you have been worshiping,

أَنتُمْ وَءَابَآؤُكُمُ ٱلْأَقْدَمُونَ

26:76 you and your earliest forefathers?

فَإِنَّهُمْ عَدُوٌّ لِّىٓ إِلَّا رَبَّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:77 They are enemies to me, except the Lord of all worlds,

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَنِى فَهُوَ يَهْدِينِ

26:78 who created me, and He guides me,

وَٱلَّذِى هُوَ يُطْعِمُنِى وَيَسْقِينِ

26:79 who feeds me and gives me drink,

وَإِذَا مَرِضْتُ فَهُوَ يَشْفِينِ

26:80 and when I am ill, He heals me,

وَٱلَّذِى يُمِيتُنِى ثُمَّ يُحْيِينِ

26:81 who will cause me to die, then bring me to life,

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَطْمَعُ أَن يَغْفِرَ لِى خَطِيٓـَٔتِى يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ

26:82 and who, I hope, will forgive my fault on the Day of Judgment.

رَبِّ هَبْ لِى حُكْمًا وَأَلْحِقْنِى بِٱلصَّـٰلِحِينَ

26:83 My Lord, grant me sound judgment, and join me with the righteous.

وَٱجْعَل لِّى لِسَانَ صِدْقٍ فِى ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ

26:84 Grant me a truthful reputation among later generations.

وَٱجْعَلْنِى مِن وَرَثَةِ جَنَّةِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

26:85 And make me one of the heirs of the Garden of Delight.

وَٱغْفِرْ لِأَبِىٓ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ مِنَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ

26:86 And forgive my father. He was one of those who lost their way.

وَلَا تُخْزِنِى يَوْمَ يُبْعَثُونَ

26:87 And do not disgrace me on the Day they are raised,

يَوْمَ لَا يَنفَعُ مَالٌ وَلَا بَنُونَ

26:88 the Day when neither wealth nor sons will help,

إِلَّا مَنْ أَتَى ٱللَّهَ بِقَلْبٍ سَلِيمٍ

26:89 except for the one who comes to Allah [God] with a sound heart.

وَأُزْلِفَتِ ٱلْجَنَّةُ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ

26:90 The Garden will be brought near for those who are mindful of Allah,

وَبُرِّزَتِ ٱلْجَحِيمُ لِلْغَاوِينَ

26:91 and Hellfire will be made plain to those who lost their way.

وَقِيلَ لَهُمْ أَيْنَ مَا كُنتُمْ تَعْبُدُونَ

26:92 It will be said to them, “Where is what you used to worship

مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ هَلْ يَنصُرُونَكُمْ أَوْ يَنتَصِرُونَ

26:93 besides Allah? Can they help you, or even help themselves?”

فَكُبْكِبُوا۟ فِيهَا هُمْ وَٱلْغَاوُۥنَ

26:94 Then what they worshiped will be hurled headlong into it, together with those who lost their way,

وَجُنُودُ إِبْلِيسَ أَجْمَعُونَ

26:95 and all the forces of Iblis.

قَالُوا۟ وَهُمْ فِيهَا يَخْتَصِمُونَ

26:96 They will say, as they argue with one another inside it:

تَٱللَّهِ إِن كُنَّا لَفِى ضَلَـٰلٍ مُّبِينٍ

26:97 [The followers will say,] “By Allah, we were clearly lost,

إِذْ نُسَوِّيكُم بِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:98 when we treated you [the ones we worshiped] as equal to the Lord of all worlds.

وَمَآ أَضَلَّنَآ إِلَّا ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ

26:99 No one led us away except the criminals.

فَمَا لَنَا مِن شَـٰفِعِينَ

26:100 So now we have no intercessors,

وَلَا صَدِيقٍ حَمِيمٍ

26:101 and no close friend.

فَلَوْ أَنَّ لَنَا كَرَّةً فَنَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

26:102 If only we had another chance, then we would be among the believers.”

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:103 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:104 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:105 The people of Noah denied the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ نُوحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

26:106 When their brother Noah said to them, “Will you not be mindful?

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

26:107 I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:108 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:109 I ask you for no payment for this. My payment is only from the Lord of all worlds.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:110 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

۞ قَالُوٓا۟ أَنُؤْمِنُ لَكَ وَٱتَّبَعَكَ ٱلْأَرْذَلُونَ

26:111 They said, “Should we believe in you when the lowest people have followed you?”

قَالَ وَمَا عِلْمِى بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ

26:112 He said, “What do I know about what they used to do?

إِنْ حِسَابُهُمْ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّى ۖ لَوْ تَشْعُرُونَ

26:113 Their accounting rests only with my Lord, if you could realize it.

وَمَآ أَنَا۠ بِطَارِدِ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

26:114 And I will not drive the believers away.

إِنْ أَنَا۠ إِلَّا نَذِيرٌ مُّبِينٌ

26:115 I am only a clear warner.”

قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَـٰنُوحُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمَرْجُومِينَ

26:116 They said, “If you do not stop, Noah, you will surely be among those who are stoned.”

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى كَذَّبُونِ

26:117 He said, “My Lord, my people have denied me.

فَٱفْتَحْ بَيْنِى وَبَيْنَهُمْ فَتْحًا وَنَجِّنِى وَمَن مَّعِىَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

26:118 So judge decisively between me and them, and save me and the believers with me.”

فَأَنجَيْنَـٰهُ وَمَن مَّعَهُۥ فِى ٱلْفُلْكِ ٱلْمَشْحُونِ

26:119 So We saved him and those with him in the loaded ship.

ثُمَّ أَغْرَقْنَا بَعْدُ ٱلْبَاقِينَ

26:120 Then, after that, We drowned the rest.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:121 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:122 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ عَادٌ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:123 Aad denied the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ هُودٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

26:124 When their brother Hud said to them, “Will you not be mindful of Allah?

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

26:125 I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:126 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:127 I ask you for no payment for this. My payment is only from the Lord of all worlds.

أَتَبْنُونَ بِكُلِّ رِيعٍ ءَايَةً تَعْبَثُونَ

26:128 Do you build a monument on every high place, just amusing yourselves?

وَتَتَّخِذُونَ مَصَانِعَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَخْلُدُونَ

26:129 And do you make great structures, as though you would live forever?

وَإِذَا بَطَشْتُم بَطَشْتُمْ جَبَّارِينَ

26:130 And when you strike, you strike like tyrants.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:131 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَمَدَّكُم بِمَا تَعْلَمُونَ

26:132 And be mindful of the One who has supplied you with what you know.

أَمَدَّكُم بِأَنْعَـٰمٍ وَبَنِينَ

26:133 He supplied you with livestock and children,

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

26:134 and gardens and springs.

إِنِّىٓ أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

26:135 I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day.

قَالُوا۟ سَوَآءٌ عَلَيْنَآ أَوَعَظْتَ أَمْ لَمْ تَكُن مِّنَ ٱلْوَٰعِظِينَ

26:136 They said, “It is all the same to us whether you warn us or do not warn us.

إِنْ هَـٰذَآ إِلَّا خُلُقُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

26:137 This is only the way of the people before us,

وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُعَذَّبِينَ

26:138 and we are not going to be punished.”

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:139 So they denied him, and We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, though most of them were not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:140 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:141 Thamud [an ancient Arabian people] denied the messengers,

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ صَـٰلِحٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

26:142 when their brother Salih said to them, “Will you not be mindful of Allah?

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

26:143 I am a trustworthy messenger to you,

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:144 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:145 I ask you for no payment for this. My payment is only from the Lord of all worlds.

أَتُتْرَكُونَ فِى مَا هَـٰهُنَآ ءَامِنِينَ

26:146 Will you be left secure in all that is here,

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

26:147 in gardens and springs,

وَزُرُوعٍ وَنَخْلٍ طَلْعُهَا هَضِيمٌ

26:148 and crops and date palms with tender clusters,

وَتَنْحِتُونَ مِنَ ٱلْجِبَالِ بُيُوتًا فَـٰرِهِينَ

26:149 carving homes out of the mountains, proud of your skill?

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:150 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَلَا تُطِيعُوٓا۟ أَمْرَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

26:151 Do not obey the orders of those who go too far,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُفْسِدُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَا يُصْلِحُونَ

26:152 who spread corruption in the land and do not set things right.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ

26:153 They said, “You are only one of the bewitched.

مَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا فَأْتِ بِـَٔايَةٍ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ

26:154 You are nothing but a human being like us, so bring a sign if you are telling the truth.”

قَالَ هَـٰذِهِۦ نَاقَةٌ لَّهَا شِرْبٌ وَلَكُمْ شِرْبُ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ

26:155 He said, “This is a she-camel. She has a turn to drink, and you have your turn on an appointed day.

وَلَا تَمَسُّوهَا بِسُوٓءٍ فَيَأْخُذَكُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

26:156 Do not touch her with harm, or the punishment of a great day will seize you.”

فَعَقَرُوهَا فَأَصْبَحُوا۟ نَـٰدِمِينَ

26:157 But they hamstrung her [the she-camel], then became regretful.

فَأَخَذَهُمُ ٱلْعَذَابُ ۗ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:158 So the punishment seized them. There is surely a sign in that, but most of them were not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:159 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَتْ قَوْمُ لُوطٍ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:160 The people of Lot denied the messengers,

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ أَخُوهُمْ لُوطٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

26:161 when their brother Lot said to them, “Will you not be mindful?”

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

26:162 “I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:163 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:164 I ask you for no payment for this. My payment is only from the Lord of all worlds.

أَتَأْتُونَ ٱلذُّكْرَانَ مِنَ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:165 Do you go to males for sex, out of all people,

وَتَذَرُونَ مَا خَلَقَ لَكُمْ رَبُّكُم مِّنْ أَزْوَٰجِكُم ۚ بَلْ أَنتُمْ قَوْمٌ عَادُونَ

26:166 and leave what your Lord created for you in your spouses? No, you are a people who transgress.”

قَالُوا۟ لَئِن لَّمْ تَنتَهِ يَـٰلُوطُ لَتَكُونَنَّ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْرَجِينَ

26:167 They said, “If you do not stop, O Lot, you will surely be among those driven out.”

قَالَ إِنِّى لِعَمَلِكُم مِّنَ ٱلْقَالِينَ

26:168 He said, “I truly detest what you do.”

رَبِّ نَجِّنِى وَأَهْلِى مِمَّا يَعْمَلُونَ

26:169 My Lord, save me and my family from what they do.

فَنَجَّيْنَـٰهُ وَأَهْلَهُۥٓ أَجْمَعِينَ

26:170 So We saved him and all his family,

إِلَّا عَجُوزًا فِى ٱلْغَـٰبِرِينَ

26:171 except an old woman [his wife], who was among those left behind.

ثُمَّ دَمَّرْنَا ٱلْـَٔاخَرِينَ

26:172 Then We destroyed the others.

وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِم مَّطَرًا ۖ فَسَآءَ مَطَرُ ٱلْمُنذَرِينَ

26:173 And We rained down a rain on them. How terrible was the rain on those who had been warned.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:174 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:175 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

كَذَّبَ أَصْحَـٰبُ لْـَٔيْكَةِ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ

26:176 The people of the Thicket [a wooded region near Madyan] denied the messengers.

إِذْ قَالَ لَهُمْ شُعَيْبٌ أَلَا تَتَّقُونَ

26:177 When Shuayb said to them, “Will you not be mindful of Allah?

إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

26:178 I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

فَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُونِ

26:179 So be mindful of Allah, and obey me.

وَمَآ أَسْـَٔلُكُمْ عَلَيْهِ مِنْ أَجْرٍ ۖ إِنْ أَجْرِىَ إِلَّا عَلَىٰ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:180 I ask you for no payment for this. My payment is only from the Lord of all worlds.

۞ أَوْفُوا۟ ٱلْكَيْلَ وَلَا تَكُونُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْمُخْسِرِينَ

26:181 Give full measure, and do not be among those who shortchange others.

وَزِنُوا۟ بِٱلْقِسْطَاسِ ٱلْمُسْتَقِيمِ

26:182 Weigh with an even scale.

وَلَا تَبْخَسُوا۟ ٱلنَّاسَ أَشْيَآءَهُمْ وَلَا تَعْثَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ مُفْسِدِينَ

26:183 Do not cheat people out of what is theirs, and do not spread corruption through the land.

وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَكُمْ وَٱلْجِبِلَّةَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

26:184 Fear the One who created you and the earlier generations.

قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مِنَ ٱلْمُسَحَّرِينَ

26:185 They said, “You are only one of the bewitched.

وَمَآ أَنتَ إِلَّا بَشَرٌ مِّثْلُنَا وَإِن نَّظُنُّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْكَـٰذِبِينَ

26:186 You are nothing but a human being like us, and we think you are surely one of the liars.

فَأَسْقِطْ عَلَيْنَا كِسَفًا مِّنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ إِن كُنتَ مِنَ ٱلصَّـٰدِقِينَ

26:187 So make pieces of the sky fall on us, if you are telling the truth.”

قَالَ رَبِّىٓ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ

26:188 He said, “My Lord knows best what you do.”

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَأَخَذَهُمْ عَذَابُ يَوْمِ ٱلظُّلَّةِ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَذَابَ يَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

26:189 But they denied him, so the punishment of the Day of the Shadow seized them. It was the punishment of a great day.

إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَـَٔايَةً ۖ وَمَا كَانَ أَكْثَرُهُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ

26:190 Surely in that there is a sign, yet most of them are not believers.

وَإِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

26:191 And your Lord is surely the Mighty, the Merciful.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَنزِيلُ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

26:192 And this [Quran] is truly a revelation from the Lord of all worlds.

نَزَلَ بِهِ ٱلرُّوحُ ٱلْأَمِينُ

26:193 The Trustworthy Spirit came down with it [the Quran],

عَلَىٰ قَلْبِكَ لِتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُنذِرِينَ

26:194 onto your heart, so you may be one of the warners,

بِلِسَانٍ عَرَبِىٍّ مُّبِينٍ

26:195 in clear Arabic.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَفِى زُبُرِ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

26:196 And it is certainly in the scriptures of the earlier peoples.

أَوَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُمْ ءَايَةً أَن يَعْلَمَهُۥ عُلَمَـٰٓؤُا۟ بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ

26:197 Was it not a sign for them that the scholars of the Children of Israel know it?

وَلَوْ نَزَّلْنَـٰهُ عَلَىٰ بَعْضِ ٱلْأَعْجَمِينَ

26:198 Had We sent it down to one of the non-Arabs,

فَقَرَأَهُۥ عَلَيْهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ بِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ

26:199 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed in it.

كَذَٰلِكَ سَلَكْنَـٰهُ فِى قُلُوبِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

26:200 So We have made it enter the hearts of the guilty.

لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ بِهِۦ حَتَّىٰ يَرَوُا۟ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَلِيمَ

26:201 They will not believe in it until they see the painful punishment,

فَيَأْتِيَهُم بَغْتَةً وَهُمْ لَا يَشْعُرُونَ

26:202 and it will come upon them suddenly, without them realizing it,

فَيَقُولُوا۟ هَلْ نَحْنُ مُنظَرُونَ

26:203 and then they will say, “Will we be given more time?”

أَفَبِعَذَابِنَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونَ

26:204 Is it Our punishment, then, that they are trying to rush?

أَفَرَءَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَـٰهُمْ سِنِينَ

26:205 Have you considered? If We let them enjoy life for years,

ثُمَّ جَآءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُوعَدُونَ

26:206 then what they were promised came to them,

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يُمَتَّعُونَ

26:207 what good would all that enjoyment do them?

وَمَآ أَهْلَكْنَا مِن قَرْيَةٍ إِلَّا لَهَا مُنذِرُونَ

26:208 We never destroyed a town unless it had warners,

ذِكْرَىٰ وَمَا كُنَّا ظَـٰلِمِينَ

26:209 as a reminder. We were never unjust.

وَمَا تَنَزَّلَتْ بِهِ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ

26:210 The devils did not bring this down.

وَمَا يَنۢبَغِى لَهُمْ وَمَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ

26:211 It would not suit them, and they could not do it.

إِنَّهُمْ عَنِ ٱلسَّمْعِ لَمَعْزُولُونَ

26:212 They are kept far away from hearing.

فَلَا تَدْعُ مَعَ ٱللَّهِ إِلَـٰهًا ءَاخَرَ فَتَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُعَذَّبِينَ

26:213 So do not call on another god alongside Allah, or you will be among those punished.

وَأَنذِرْ عَشِيرَتَكَ ٱلْأَقْرَبِينَ

26:214 Warn your closest relatives.

وَٱخْفِضْ جَنَاحَكَ لِمَنِ ٱتَّبَعَكَ مِنَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ

26:215 And be gentle and humble with the believers who follow you.

فَإِنْ عَصَوْكَ فَقُلْ إِنِّى بَرِىٓءٌ مِّمَّا تَعْمَلُونَ

26:216 If they [your relatives] disobey you, say, “I am clear of what you do.”

وَتَوَكَّلْ عَلَى ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

26:217 Put your trust in the Almighty, the Most Merciful,

ٱلَّذِى يَرَىٰكَ حِينَ تَقُومُ

26:218 the One who sees you when you stand [to pray],

وَتَقَلُّبَكَ فِى ٱلسَّـٰجِدِينَ

26:219 and your movements among those who prostrate.

إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

26:220 He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

هَلْ أُنَبِّئُكُمْ عَلَىٰ مَن تَنَزَّلُ ٱلشَّيَـٰطِينُ

26:221 Shall I tell you upon whom the devils descend?

تَنَزَّلُ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ أَفَّاكٍ أَثِيمٍ

26:222 They descend upon every sinful liar.

يُلْقُونَ ٱلسَّمْعَ وَأَكْثَرُهُمْ كَـٰذِبُونَ

26:223 They pass along what they hear, and most of them are liars.

وَٱلشُّعَرَآءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ ٱلْغَاوُۥنَ

26:224 As for the poets, the lost follow them.

أَلَمْ تَرَ أَنَّهُمْ فِى كُلِّ وَادٍ يَهِيمُونَ

26:225 Do you not see that they roam through every valley,

وَأَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ مَا لَا يَفْعَلُونَ

26:226 and that they say what they do not do?

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ كَثِيرًا وَٱنتَصَرُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِ مَا ظُلِمُوا۟ ۗ وَسَيَعْلَمُ ٱلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَىَّ مُنقَلَبٍ يَنقَلِبُونَ

26:227 Except those who believe, do good, remember Allah often, and defend themselves after they have been wronged. Those who did wrong will soon know what kind of return they are returning to.
