41:1 Ha Meem.

41:2 A revelation from the Most Compassionate [mercy over all], the Most Merciful [mercy that continues].

41:3 A Book whose verses have been explained in detail: an Arabic Quran for people who know,

41:4 bringing good news and warning. But most of them turned away, so they do not listen.

41:5 They say [to Muhammad], “Our hearts are under covers against what you call us to, and in our ears is heaviness, and between us and you is a screen. So work; we are working.”

41:6 Say, “I am only a human being like you. It is revealed to me that your god is one God, so keep straight toward Him and ask His forgiveness. And woe to those who worship others with Him,

41:7 those who do not give the purifying alms, and it is they who disbelieve in the Hereafter.”

41:8 Those who believe and do righteous deeds will have an unfailing reward.

41:9 Say, “Do you really disbelieve in the One who created the earth in two days, and set up rivals to Him? That is the Lord of all worlds.”

41:10 He placed firm mountains on it, blessed it, and measured out its provisions on it in four days, exactly, for those who ask.

41:11 Then He turned to the heaven while it was smoke and said to it and to the earth, “Come, willingly or unwillingly.” They said, “We come willingly.”

41:12 So He completed them as seven heavens in two days and revealed to each heaven its command. We adorned the nearest heaven with lamps [stars] and with protection. That is the design of the Almighty, the All-Knowing.

41:13 But if they turn away, say, “I have warned you of a thunderbolt like the thunderbolt of Aad and Thamud.”

41:14 When messengers came to them from before them and from behind them, saying, “Do not worship anyone but Allah [God],” they said, “If our Lord had willed, He would have sent down angels. We reject what you have been sent with.”

41:15 As for Aad, they were arrogant in the land without right and said, “Who is stronger than us?” Did they not see that Allah, the One who created them, was Himself stronger than them? Yet they kept denying Our signs.

41:16 So We sent against them a furious wind on days of misfortune, to make them taste the punishment of disgrace in this worldly life. But the punishment of the Hereafter is more disgraceful, and they will not be helped.

41:17 As for Thamud, We showed them the way, but they preferred blindness over guidance. So the thunderbolt of humiliating punishment seized them for what they used to earn.

41:18 And We saved those who believed and were mindful.

41:19 And on the Day Allah’s enemies are gathered to the Fire, they will be held in ranks.

41:20 Until, when they reach it, their hearing, their eyes, and their skins will testify against them about what they used to do.

41:21 They will say to their skins, “Why did you testify against us?” They will say, “Allah, who makes everything speak, made us speak. He created you the first time, and to Him you will be returned.”

41:22 You did not use to hide yourselves from your hearing, your eyes, or your skins, fearing they would testify against you. Rather, you assumed that Allah did not know much of what you were doing.

41:23 That assumption you made about your Lord ruined you, and now you have become among the losers.

41:24 So if they endure, the Fire is their home. And if they plead to make amends, they will not be allowed to make amends.

41:25 We assigned them close companions, who made what was before them and behind them look good to them. So the sentence fell upon them, along with nations of jinn and humans that had passed before them. They were truly losers.

41:26 Those who disbelieved said, “Do not listen to this Quran. Drown it out while it is being recited, so you may win.”

41:27 We will surely make those who disbelieved taste a severe punishment, and We will surely repay them for the worst of what they used to do.

41:28 That is the repayment of Allah’s enemies: the Fire. In it they will have the home of permanence, as repayment for rejecting Our signs.

41:29 Those who disbelieved will say, “Our Lord, show us the two who led us astray, from jinn and humans, so we can put them under our feet and make them among the lowest.”

41:30 Those who say, “Our Lord is Allah,” then stay firm, the angels come down to them: “Do not fear, and do not grieve. Receive the good news of the Garden you were promised.

41:31 We are your protectors in the life of this world and in the Hereafter. There you will have whatever your souls desire, and there you will have whatever you ask for,

41:32 as a welcome gift from the Forgiving, the Merciful.”

41:33 Who speaks better than one who calls to Allah, does what is right, and says, “I am one of those who submit”?

41:34 Good and evil are not equal. Repel evil with what is better; then the one between you and whom there was hostility will become as if he were a close friend.

41:35 But no one is granted that except those who are patient, and no one is granted it except one with a great share.

41:36 And if a prompting from Satan stirs you, seek refuge in Allah. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing.

41:37 Among His signs are the night and the day, the sun and the moon. Do not prostrate to the sun or to the moon; prostrate to Allah, who created them, if it is Him alone you worship.

41:38 But if they are too proud, those who are near your Lord glorify Him by night and day, and they do not tire.

41:39 Among His signs is that you see the earth lying still; then when We send water down on it, it stirs and swells. The One who gives it life will surely give life to the dead. He has power over everything.

41:40 Those who twist Our verses are not hidden from Us. Is someone thrown into the Fire better, or someone who comes secure on the Day of Resurrection? Do whatever you wish; He sees everything you do.

41:41 Those who reject the Reminder [the Qur’an] when it comes to them, it is certainly a mighty Book,

41:42 falsehood cannot reach it from before it or from behind it: a revelation sent down from One who is Wise, Praiseworthy.

41:43 Nothing is said to you except what was already said to the messengers before you. Your Lord is full of forgiveness, and He has painful punishment.

41:44 If We had made it a Qur’an in a foreign language, they would have said, “Why were its verses not explained clearly? A foreign-language Qur’an for an Arab?” Say, “For those who believe, it is guidance and healing. As for those who do not believe, there is heaviness in their ears, and it is blindness for them. Those people are being called from a faraway place.”

41:45 We certainly gave Moses the Book [the Torah], but disputes arose over it. Had it not been for a word already issued from your Lord, judgment would have been passed between them. They are in disturbing doubt about it.

41:46 Whoever does good does it for himself, and whoever does evil does it against himself. Your Lord is not unjust to His servants.

41:47 To Him alone is referred the knowledge of the Hour. No fruit emerges from its sheath, and no female becomes pregnant or gives birth, except with His knowledge. On the Day He calls to them, “Where are My partners?” they will say, “We declare to You: none of us can testify.”

41:48 What they used to call upon before will vanish from them, and they will be certain they have no way out.

41:49 The human being never tires of praying for good; but if harm touches him, he gives up and loses hope.

41:50 And if We let him taste mercy from Us after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, “This is my due. I do not think the Hour will happen. And even if I am returned to my Lord, I will surely have the best with Him.” But We will surely tell those who disbelieved what they did, and We will surely make them taste a harsh punishment.

41:51 When We favor the human being, he turns away and pulls himself aside; but when harm touches him, he is full of long prayers.

41:52 Say, “Have you considered: if this is from Allah and then you reject it, who is more lost than someone in deep opposition?”

41:53 We will show them Our signs across the horizons and within themselves until it becomes clear to them that it is the truth. Is it not enough that your Lord is Witness over everything?

41:54 They are certainly in doubt about meeting their Lord. He certainly encompasses everything.
