Surah Al-Haqqah (The Reality)

ٱلْحَآقَّةُ

69:1 The Inevitable Reality.

مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ

69:2 What is the Inevitable Reality?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحَآقَّةُ

69:3 And what will make you know what the Inevitable Reality is?

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ وَعَادٌۢ بِٱلْقَارِعَةِ

69:4 Thamud and Aad denied the Striking Calamity.

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ

69:5 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering blast.

وَأَمَّا عَادٌ فَأُهْلِكُوا۟ بِرِيحٍ صَرْصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٍ

69:6 And as for Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind.

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيْهِمْ سَبْعَ لَيَالٍ وَثَمَـٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومًا فَتَرَى ٱلْقَوْمَ فِيهَا صَرْعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمْ أَعْجَازُ نَخْلٍ خَاوِيَةٍ

69:7 He [Allah [God]] drove it against them for seven nights and eight days in succession. You would have seen the people lying there, as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees.

فَهَلْ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٍ

69:8 So do you see any trace of them left?

وَجَآءَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَن قَبْلَهُۥ وَٱلْمُؤْتَفِكَـٰتُ بِٱلْخَاطِئَةِ

69:9 Pharaoh came, and those before him, and the overturned cities, with sin.

فَعَصَوْا۟ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمْ فَأَخَذَهُمْ أَخْذَةً رَّابِيَةً

69:10 They disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with an overwhelming seizure.

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلْمَآءُ حَمَلْنَـٰكُمْ فِى ٱلْجَارِيَةِ

69:11 When the water overflowed, We carried you [your ancestors] in the sailing ship.

لِنَجْعَلَهَا لَكُمْ تَذْكِرَةً وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٌ وَٰعِيَةٌ

69:12 So that We would make it a reminder for you, and so that an attentive ear would take it in.

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِى ٱلصُّورِ نَفْخَةٌ وَٰحِدَةٌ

69:13 Then, when one blast is blown into the Trumpet,

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةً وَٰحِدَةً

69:14 and the earth and the mountains are lifted and crushed with one crushing,

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ

69:15 on that Day the Event will happen.

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِىَ يَوْمَئِذٍ وَاهِيَةٌ

69:16 The sky will split apart, and on that Day it will be frail.

وَٱلْمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرْجَآئِهَا ۚ وَيَحْمِلُ عَرْشَ رَبِّكَ فَوْقَهُمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ ثَمَـٰنِيَةٌ

69:17 The angels will be on its edges, and above them, on that Day, eight will carry the Throne of your Lord.

يَوْمَئِذٍ تُعْرَضُونَ لَا تَخْفَىٰ مِنكُمْ خَافِيَةٌ

69:18 That Day, you will be presented; no secret of yours will stay hidden.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقْرَءُوا۟ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ

69:19 As for the one given his record in his right hand, he will say, “Here, read my record!

إِنِّى ظَنَنتُ أَنِّى مُلَـٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهْ

69:20 I was sure I would face my account.”

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

69:21 So he will be in a pleasing life,

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

69:22 in a high Garden,

قُطُوفُهَا دَانِيَةٌ

69:23 with its fruit clusters hanging near.

كُلُوا۟ وَٱشْرَبُوا۟ هَنِيٓـًٔۢا بِمَآ أَسْلَفْتُمْ فِى ٱلْأَيَّامِ ٱلْخَالِيَةِ

69:24 Eat and drink with delight because of what you sent ahead in days gone by.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِشِمَالِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى لَمْ أُوتَ كِتَـٰبِيَهْ

69:25 But as for the one given his record in his left hand, he will say, “If only I had never been given my record,

وَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَا حِسَابِيَهْ

69:26 and never known what my account was.

يَـٰلَيْتَهَا كَانَتِ ٱلْقَاضِيَةَ

69:27 If only [death] had been the end.

مَآ أَغْنَىٰ عَنِّى مَالِيَهْ ۜ

69:28 My wealth has done nothing for me.

هَلَكَ عَنِّى سُلْطَـٰنِيَهْ

69:29 My authority has vanished from me.”

خُذُوهُ فَغُلُّوهُ

69:30 [It will be said:] “Seize him and shackle him.

ثُمَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ صَلُّوهُ

69:31 Then burn him in the Hellfire.

ثُمَّ فِى سِلْسِلَةٍ ذَرْعُهَا سَبْعُونَ ذِرَاعًا فَٱسْلُكُوهُ

69:32 Then thread him through a chain seventy cubits long.”

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لَا يُؤْمِنُ بِٱللَّهِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

69:33 He did not believe in Allah, the Magnificent,

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

69:34 and did not urge anyone to feed the poor.

فَلَيْسَ لَهُ ٱلْيَوْمَ هَـٰهُنَا حَمِيمٌ

69:35 So today, here, he has no close friend,

وَلَا طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ غِسْلِينٍ

69:36 and no food except foul discharge.

لَّا يَأْكُلُهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْخَـٰطِـُٔونَ

69:37 No one will eat it except the sinners.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَا تُبْصِرُونَ

69:38 No, I swear by what you can see,

وَمَا لَا تُبْصِرُونَ

69:39 and by what you cannot see:

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

69:40 This is truly the message delivered by a noble messenger.

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَاعِرٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تُؤْمِنُونَ

69:41 It is not the word of a poet. How little you believe!

وَلَا بِقَوْلِ كَاهِنٍ ۚ قَلِيلًا مَّا تَذَكَّرُونَ

69:42 Nor is it the word of a soothsayer. How little you take to heart!

تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

69:43 A revelation from the Lord of all worlds.

وَلَوْ تَقَوَّلَ عَلَيْنَا بَعْضَ ٱلْأَقَاوِيلِ

69:44 If he had made up some sayings and attributed them to Us,

لَأَخَذْنَا مِنْهُ بِٱلْيَمِينِ

69:45 We would have seized him by the right hand,

ثُمَّ لَقَطَعْنَا مِنْهُ ٱلْوَتِينَ

69:46 then We would have cut his aorta,

فَمَا مِنكُم مِّنْ أَحَدٍ عَنْهُ حَـٰجِزِينَ

69:47 and none of you could have kept Us from him.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَتَذْكِرَةٌ لِّلْمُتَّقِينَ

69:48 It is truly a reminder for those mindful of Allah.

وَإِنَّا لَنَعْلَمُ أَنَّ مِنكُم مُّكَذِّبِينَ

69:49 And We certainly know that some of you deny [this Qur’an].

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَسْرَةٌ عَلَى ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ

69:50 And it will surely be a source of regret for the disbelievers.

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَحَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ

69:51 And it is the certain truth.

فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

69:52 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Magnificent.
