Surah At-Takwir (The Overthrowing)

إِذَا ٱلشَّمْسُ كُوِّرَتْ

81:1 When the sun is wrapped up,

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّجُومُ ٱنكَدَرَتْ

81:2 and when the stars fall, losing their light,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجِبَالُ سُيِّرَتْ

81:3 and when the mountains are set moving,

وَإِذَا ٱلْعِشَارُ عُطِّلَتْ

81:4 and when full-term pregnant camels are left untended,

وَإِذَا ٱلْوُحُوشُ حُشِرَتْ

81:5 and when the wild animals are gathered,

وَإِذَا ٱلْبِحَارُ سُجِّرَتْ

81:6 and when the seas are set boiling over,

وَإِذَا ٱلنُّفُوسُ زُوِّجَتْ

81:7 and when souls are paired,

وَإِذَا ٱلْمَوْءُۥدَةُ سُئِلَتْ

81:8 and when the baby girl buried alive is asked

بِأَىِّ ذَنۢبٍ قُتِلَتْ

81:9 for what sin she was killed,

وَإِذَا ٱلصُّحُفُ نُشِرَتْ

81:10 and when the records are laid open,

وَإِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ كُشِطَتْ

81:11 and when the sky is stripped away,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَحِيمُ سُعِّرَتْ

81:12 and when Hellfire is set ablaze,

وَإِذَا ٱلْجَنَّةُ أُزْلِفَتْ

81:13 and when Paradise is brought near,

عَلِمَتْ نَفْسٌ مَّآ أَحْضَرَتْ

81:14 each soul will know what it has brought.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلْخُنَّسِ

81:15 I swear by the heavenly bodies that retreat,

ٱلْجَوَارِ ٱلْكُنَّسِ

81:16 that move along and slip from sight,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا عَسْعَسَ

81:17 and by the night when it turns,

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَا تَنَفَّسَ

81:18 and by the dawn when it breathes:

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلُ رَسُولٍ كَرِيمٍ

81:19 This is truly the message delivered by a noble messenger.

ذِى قُوَّةٍ عِندَ ذِى ٱلْعَرْشِ مَكِينٍ

81:20 powerful, held in honor with the Owner of the Throne,

مُّطَاعٍ ثَمَّ أَمِينٍ

81:21 obeyed there, trustworthy.

وَمَا صَاحِبُكُم بِمَجْنُونٍ

81:22 Your companion [Muhammad] is not mad.

وَلَقَدْ رَءَاهُ بِٱلْأُفُقِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

81:23 He certainly saw him [Gabriel] on the clear horizon.

وَمَا هُوَ عَلَى ٱلْغَيْبِ بِضَنِينٍ

81:24 He does not withhold the unseen [revelation].

وَمَا هُوَ بِقَوْلِ شَيْطَـٰنٍ رَّجِيمٍ

81:25 And this is not the word of an accursed devil.

فَأَيْنَ تَذْهَبُونَ

81:26 So where are you going?

إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا ذِكْرٌ لِّلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

81:27 It is only a reminder for all worlds.

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَسْتَقِيمَ

81:28 for whoever among you wants to go straight.

وَمَا تَشَآءُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ رَبُّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

81:29 But you do not will unless Allah [God], Lord of all worlds, wills.
