Surah Al-Fajr (The Dawn)

وَٱلْفَجْرِ

89:1 By the dawn,

وَلَيَالٍ عَشْرٍ

89:2 and by ten nights,

وَٱلشَّفْعِ وَٱلْوَتْرِ

89:3 and by the even and the odd,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَسْرِ

89:4 and by the night as it passes away:

هَلْ فِى ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمٌ لِّذِى حِجْرٍ

89:5 is there not in that an oath for anyone with sense?

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ

89:6 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Aad?

إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلْعِمَادِ

89:7 Iram, of the lofty pillars,

ٱلَّتِى لَمْ يُخْلَقْ مِثْلُهَا فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

89:8 the like of which had never been created in the lands,

وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُوا۟ ٱلصَّخْرَ بِٱلْوَادِ

89:9 and Thamud, who carved the rock in the valley,

وَفِرْعَوْنَ ذِى ٱلْأَوْتَادِ

89:10 and Pharaoh, lord of the stakes,

ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَـٰدِ

89:11 all of them overstepped in the lands

فَأَكْثَرُوا۟ فِيهَا ٱلْفَسَادَ

89:12 and spread much corruption there.

فَصَبَّ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّكَ سَوْطَ عَذَابٍ

89:13 So your Lord poured over them [the tyrants just named] a scourge of punishment.

إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلْمِرْصَادِ

89:14 Your Lord is surely watching.

فَأَمَّا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكْرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَكْرَمَنِ

89:15 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and favors him, he says, “My Lord has honored me.”

وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبْتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيْهِ رِزْقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّىٓ أَهَـٰنَنِ

89:16 But when He tests him and tightens his provision for him, he says, “My Lord has humiliated me.”

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا تُكْرِمُونَ ٱلْيَتِيمَ

89:17 No. Rather, you do not honor the orphan,

وَلَا تَحَـٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ

89:18 and you do not urge one another to feed the poor.

وَتَأْكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكْلًا لَّمًّا

89:19 You devour inheritance whole,

وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلْمَالَ حُبًّا جَمًّا

89:20 and you love wealth with an immense love.

كَلَّآ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ دَكًّا دَكًّا

89:21 No. When the earth is crushed, crushed again,

وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا

89:22 and your Lord comes, and the angels, rank upon rank,

وَجِا۟ىٓءَ يَوْمَئِذٍۭ بِجَهَنَّمَ ۚ يَوْمَئِذٍ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ

89:23 and Hell is brought that Day, on that Day the human being will remember, but what good will remembrance be for him?

يَقُولُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى قَدَّمْتُ لِحَيَاتِى

89:24 He will say, “If only I had sent something ahead for my life.”

فَيَوْمَئِذٍ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

89:25 On that Day, no one will punish as He punishes,

وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدٌ

89:26 and no one will bind as He binds.

يَـٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفْسُ ٱلْمُطْمَئِنَّةُ

89:27 O soul at peace,

ٱرْجِعِىٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةً مَّرْضِيَّةً

89:28 return to your Lord, pleased and pleasing.

فَٱدْخُلِى فِى عِبَـٰدِى

89:29 Enter among My servants,

وَٱدْخُلِى جَنَّتِى

89:30 and enter My Paradise.
