Surah At-Talaq (The Divorce)
Madani · 12 ayahs
65:1 O Prophet, when you [believers] divorce women, divorce them at the time set for their waiting period, and count the waiting period carefully. Be mindful of Allah [God], your Lord. Do not drive them out of their homes, and they must not leave, unless they commit a clear indecency. These are Allah’s limits. Whoever crosses Allah’s limits has wronged himself. You do not know: perhaps Allah will bring about something after that.
65:2 Then when they reach the end of their term, either keep them honorably or part from them honorably, and call two just men from among you as witnesses. Give the testimony for Allah. This is what anyone who believes in Allah and the Last Day is instructed with. Whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make a way out for him,
65:3 and provide for him from where he does not expect. Whoever relies on Allah, He is enough for him. Allah will carry out His command. Allah has set a measure for everything.
65:4 As for your women who no longer expect menstruation, if you are unsure, their waiting period is three months; and so is that of those who have not menstruated. As for pregnant women, their term is until they deliver their pregnancy. Whoever is mindful of Allah, He will make his affair easy for him.
65:5 That is Allah’s command, which He has sent down to you. Whoever is mindful of Allah, He will remove his evil deeds from him and make his reward great.
65:6 House them where you live, according to your means, and do not harm them in order to pressure them. If they are pregnant, spend on them until they deliver their pregnancy. Then if they nurse your child for you, give them their wages, and consult together honorably. But if you make things difficult for each other, then another woman may nurse him.
65:7 Let the man of ample means spend according to his means, and let the one whose provision is restricted spend from what Allah has given him. Allah does not burden any soul beyond what He has given it. Allah will bring ease after hardship.
65:8 How many a town rebelled against the command of its Lord and His messengers, so We called it to a severe account and punished it with a terrible punishment.
65:9 It tasted the heavy consequence of its affair, and the end of its affair was loss.
65:10 Allah has prepared a severe punishment for them. So be mindful of Allah, you people of understanding who believe. Allah has sent down to you a reminder:
65:11 a Messenger reciting to you Allah’s clear verses, to bring those who believe and do righteous deeds out of darkness into light. Whoever believes in Allah and does righteousness, He will admit him into Gardens beneath which rivers flow, staying there forever. Allah has made an excellent provision for him.
65:12 Allah is the One who created seven heavens, and of the earth the like of them. The command descends between them, so that you may know that Allah has power over everything, and that Allah encompasses everything in knowledge.
