Surah Al-Muzzammil (The Enshrouded One)

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ

73:1 O you wrapped up,

قُمِ ٱلَّيْلَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا

73:2 stand through the night, except a little:

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ أَوِ ٱنقُصْ مِنْهُ قَلِيلًا

73:3 half of it, or reduce it a little,

أَوْ زِدْ عَلَيْهِ وَرَتِّلِ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ تَرْتِيلًا

73:4 or add to it, and recite the Quran in measured recitation.

إِنَّا سَنُلْقِى عَلَيْكَ قَوْلًا ثَقِيلًا

73:5 We are about to lay on you a weighty word.

إِنَّ نَاشِئَةَ ٱلَّيْلِ هِىَ أَشَدُّ وَطْـًٔا وَأَقْوَمُ قِيلًا

73:6 Rising at night is firmer in discipline and steadier for recitation.

إِنَّ لَكَ فِى ٱلنَّهَارِ سَبْحًا طَوِيلًا

73:7 During the day, you have long work to attend to.

وَٱذْكُرِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ وَتَبَتَّلْ إِلَيْهِ تَبْتِيلًا

73:8 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him completely.

رَّبُّ ٱلْمَشْرِقِ وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ فَٱتَّخِذْهُ وَكِيلًا

73:9 He is the Lord of the east and the west. There is no god but Him, so take Him as the One you trust.

وَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ هَجْرًا جَمِيلًا

73:10 Be patient with what they [the Meccan deniers] say, and withdraw from them gracefully.

وَذَرْنِى وَٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ أُو۟لِى ٱلنَّعْمَةِ وَمَهِّلْهُمْ قَلِيلًا

73:11 Leave Me with the deniers, those who live in ease, and give them a little time.

إِنَّ لَدَيْنَآ أَنكَالًا وَجَحِيمًا

73:12 With Us are shackles and a blazing Fire.

وَطَعَامًا ذَا غُصَّةٍ وَعَذَابًا أَلِيمًا

73:13 and food that chokes, and a painful punishment,

يَوْمَ تَرْجُفُ ٱلْأَرْضُ وَٱلْجِبَالُ وَكَانَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَثِيبًا مَّهِيلًا

73:14 on the Day the earth and the mountains quake, and the mountains become a sliding heap of sand.

إِنَّآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَيْكُمْ رَسُولًا شَـٰهِدًا عَلَيْكُمْ كَمَآ أَرْسَلْنَآ إِلَىٰ فِرْعَوْنَ رَسُولًا

73:15 We have sent you a messenger as a witness against you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh.

فَعَصَىٰ فِرْعَوْنُ ٱلرَّسُولَ فَأَخَذْنَـٰهُ أَخْذًا وَبِيلًا

73:16 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a devastating grip.

فَكَيْفَ تَتَّقُونَ إِن كَفَرْتُمْ يَوْمًا يَجْعَلُ ٱلْوِلْدَٰنَ شِيبًا

73:17 Then how will you protect yourselves, if you disbelieve, from a Day that will turn children gray-haired?

ٱلسَّمَآءُ مُنفَطِرٌۢ بِهِۦ ۚ كَانَ وَعْدُهُۥ مَفْعُولًا

73:18 The sky will split apart because of it. His promise will be fulfilled.

إِنَّ هَـٰذِهِۦ تَذْكِرَةٌ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ سَبِيلًا

73:19 This is a reminder. So whoever wills, let him take a path to his Lord.

۞ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ يَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَقُومُ أَدْنَىٰ مِن ثُلُثَىِ ٱلَّيْلِ وَنِصْفَهُۥ وَثُلُثَهُۥ وَطَآئِفَةٌ مِّنَ ٱلَّذِينَ مَعَكَ ۚ وَٱللَّهُ يُقَدِّرُ ٱلَّيْلَ وَٱلنَّهَارَ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن لَّن تُحْصُوهُ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنَ ٱلْقُرْءَانِ ۚ عَلِمَ أَن سَيَكُونُ مِنكُم مَّرْضَىٰ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يَضْرِبُونَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ يَبْتَغُونَ مِن فَضْلِ ٱللَّهِ ۙ وَءَاخَرُونَ يُقَـٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِ ٱللَّهِ ۖ فَٱقْرَءُوا۟ مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ ۚ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَءَاتُوا۟ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَأَقْرِضُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا ۚ وَمَا تُقَدِّمُوا۟ لِأَنفُسِكُم مِّنْ خَيْرٍ تَجِدُوهُ عِندَ ٱللَّهِ هُوَ خَيْرًا وَأَعْظَمَ أَجْرًا ۚ وَٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ ۖ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌۢ

73:20 Your Lord knows that you stand in prayer for a little less than two thirds of the night, or for half of it, or for a third of it, as does a group of those with you. Allah [God] measures out the night and the day. He knew that you would not be able to keep count of it, so He has relented toward you. So recite whatever is easy for you from the Quran. He knew that among you there would be the sick, and others traveling through the land seeking Allah’s bounty, and others fighting in Allah’s way. So recite whatever is easy of it, establish prayer, give the purifying alms, and lend Allah a good loan. Whatever good you send ahead for yourselves, you will find it with Allah, better and greater in reward. And ask Allah for forgiveness. Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
