Surah An-Naba (The Tidings)

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

78:1 What are they asking one another about?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

78:2 About the great news,

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

78:3 over which they disagree.

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

78:4 No. They will soon know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

78:5 Again, no. They will soon know.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا

78:6 Have We not made the earth a resting place,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

78:7 and the mountains as pegs,

وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا

78:8 and created you in pairs,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

78:9 and made your sleep a rest,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

78:10 and made the night a covering,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

78:11 and made the day for livelihood,

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

78:12 and built above you seven strong ones [heavens]?

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

78:13 and placed a blazing lamp,

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا

78:14 and sent down pouring water from the rain clouds,

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

78:15 so that by it We bring out grain and plants,

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا

78:16 and gardens thick with foliage.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا

78:17 The Day of Decision is an appointed time:

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

78:18 the Day the trumpet is blown, and you come in crowds;

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا

78:19 the sky is opened and becomes gateways;

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

78:20 the mountains are set in motion and become a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

78:21 Hell is lying in wait,

لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا

78:22 a place of return for the transgressors,

لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا

78:23 where they will remain for ages,

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

78:24 tasting no coolness there, and no drink,

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

78:25 only scalding water and foul discharge,

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا

78:26 a fitting repayment.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

78:27 They were not expecting any accounting,

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا

78:28 and they denied Our signs completely.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا

78:29 But We have recorded everything in a Book.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

78:30 So taste it. We will only increase you in punishment.

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

78:31 For those mindful of Allah [God], there is success:

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا

78:32 gardens and grapevines,

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا

78:33 and full-grown companions, well matched,

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا

78:34 and a full cup.

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا

78:35 They will hear no empty talk there, and no lies,

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا

78:36 as a reward from your Lord, a gift in full measure.

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا

78:37 [the reward is from] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, the Most Merciful. No one will have the power to address Him.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

78:38 On the Day the Spirit and the angels stand in rows, none will speak except someone the Most Merciful permits, and who says what is right.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا

78:39 That is the true Day. So whoever wishes, let him take a way back to his Lord.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا

78:40 We have truly warned you of a punishment close at hand, on the Day a person will see what his own hands have sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “If only I were dust!”
