Surah Al-Inshiqaq (The Sundering)

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ

84:1 When the sky is split open,

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

84:2 and obeys its Lord, as it must,

وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ

84:3 and when the earth is stretched out,

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ

84:4 and throws out what is inside it and empties itself,

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

84:5 and obeys its Lord, as it must,

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَـٰقِيهِ

84:6 O human being, you are toiling toward your Lord with hard toil, and you will meet Him.

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ

84:7 As for the one who is given his record in his right hand,

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

84:8 he will be given an easy accounting,

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

84:9 and he will return to his family happy.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَـٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ

84:10 But as for the one who is given his record behind his back,

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا

84:11 he will cry out for destruction,

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

84:12 and he will burn in a blazing Fire.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

84:13 He [the one given his record behind his back] had lived happily among his people.

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ

84:14 He thought he would never return.

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا

84:15 Yes indeed. His Lord had always seen him.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ

84:16 No, I swear by the twilight glow,

وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

84:17 and by the night and what it gathers in,

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ

84:18 and by the moon when it becomes full:

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ

84:19 you will surely pass from one stage to another.

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

84:20 So what is wrong with them that they do not believe,

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ ۩

84:21 and when the Quran is recited to them, they do not prostrate?

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ

84:22 No. Those who disbelieve keep denying,

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ

84:23 and Allah [God] knows best what they hold inside.

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

84:24 So announce to them a painful punishment.

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ

84:25 except those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward that never ends.
