Surah An-Naba (The Tidings)

عَمَّ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

78:1 What are they asking one another about?

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ

78:2 About the momentous news,

ٱلَّذِى هُمْ فِيهِ مُخْتَلِفُونَ

78:3 over which they disagree.

كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

78:4 But no! They will come to know.

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَيَعْلَمُونَ

78:5 Again, no! They will come to know.

أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ ٱلْأَرْضَ مِهَـٰدًا

78:6 Have We not smoothed out the earth ˹like a bed˺,

وَٱلْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا

78:7 and ˹made˺ the mountains as ˹its˺ pegs,

وَخَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا

78:8 and created you in pairs,

وَجَعَلْنَا نَوْمَكُمْ سُبَاتًا

78:9 and made your sleep for rest,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلَّيْلَ لِبَاسًا

78:10 and made the night as a cover,

وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشًا

78:11 and made the day for livelihood,

وَبَنَيْنَا فَوْقَكُمْ سَبْعًا شِدَادًا

78:12 and built above you seven mighty ˹heavens˺,

وَجَعَلْنَا سِرَاجًا وَهَّاجًا

78:13 and placed ˹in them˺ a shining lamp,

وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ ٱلْمُعْصِرَٰتِ مَآءً ثَجَّاجًا

78:14 and sent down from rainclouds pouring water,

لِّنُخْرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبًّا وَنَبَاتًا

78:15 producing by it grain and ˹various˺ plants,

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلْفَافًا

78:16 and dense orchards?

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ كَانَ مِيقَـٰتًا

78:17 Indeed, the Day of ˹Final˺ Decision is an appointed time—

يَوْمَ يُنفَخُ فِى ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأْتُونَ أَفْوَاجًا

78:18 ˹it is˺ the Day the Trumpet will be blown, and you will ˹all˺ come forth in crowds.

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَكَانَتْ أَبْوَٰبًا

78:19 The sky will be ˹split˺ open, becoming ˹many˺ gates,

وَسُيِّرَتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ فَكَانَتْ سَرَابًا

78:20 and the mountains will be blown away, becoming ˹like˺ a mirage.

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتْ مِرْصَادًا

78:21 Indeed, Hell is lying in ambush

لِّلطَّـٰغِينَ مَـَٔابًا

78:22 as a home for the transgressors,

لَّـٰبِثِينَ فِيهَآ أَحْقَابًا

78:23 where they will remain for ˹endless˺ ages.

لَّا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا بَرْدًا وَلَا شَرَابًا

78:24 There they will not taste any coolness or drink,

إِلَّا حَمِيمًا وَغَسَّاقًا

78:25 except boiling water and ˹oozing˺ pus—

جَزَآءً وِفَاقًا

78:26 a fitting reward.

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ لَا يَرْجُونَ حِسَابًا

78:27 For they never expected any reckoning,

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابًا

78:28 and totally rejected Our signs.

وَكُلَّ شَىْءٍ أَحْصَيْنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبًا

78:29 And We have everything recorded precisely.

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِيدَكُمْ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

78:30 ˹So the deniers will be told,˺ “Taste ˹the punishment˺, for all you will get from Us is more torment.”

إِنَّ لِلْمُتَّقِينَ مَفَازًا

78:31 Indeed, the righteous will have salvation—

حَدَآئِقَ وَأَعْنَـٰبًا

78:32 Gardens, vineyards,

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتْرَابًا

78:33 and full-bosomed maidens of equal age,

وَكَأْسًا دِهَاقًا

78:34 and full cups ˹of pure wine˺,

لَّا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا كِذَّٰبًا

78:35 never to hear any idle talk or lying therein—

جَزَآءً مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَآءً حِسَابًا

78:36 a ˹fitting˺ reward as a generous gift from your Lord,

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ۖ لَا يَمْلِكُونَ مِنْهُ خِطَابًا

78:37 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything in between, the Most Compassionate. No one will dare speak to Him

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةُ صَفًّا ۖ لَّا يَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابًا

78:38 on the Day the ˹holy˺ spirit and the angels will stand in ranks. None will talk, except those granted permission by the Most Compassionate and whose words are true.

ذَٰلِكَ ٱلْيَوْمُ ٱلْحَقُّ ۖ فَمَن شَآءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا

78:39 That Day is the ˹ultimate˺ truth. So let whoever wills take the path leading back to their Lord.

إِنَّآ أَنذَرْنَـٰكُمْ عَذَابًا قَرِيبًا يَوْمَ يَنظُرُ ٱلْمَرْءُ مَا قَدَّمَتْ يَدَاهُ وَيَقُولُ ٱلْكَافِرُ يَـٰلَيْتَنِى كُنتُ تُرَٰبًۢا

78:40 Indeed, We have warned you of an imminent punishment—the Day every person will see ˹the consequences of˺ what their hands have done, and the disbelievers will cry, “I wish I were dust.”
