Indeed, all praise is due to Allah. We praise Him, we seek His help, we seek His forgiveness, and we seek refuge in Allah from the evil of our own souls and from the consequences of our deeds. Whoever Allah guides, none can misguide; and whoever He leaves astray, none can guide. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.
O Allah, send Your peace and blessings upon our master Muhammad, upon his family, his companions, and all who follow them with excellence until the Day of Judgment.
Servants of Allah, I advise myself and you with taqwa: to be conscious of Allah, to guard ourselves from His displeasure, and to live as people who know that they will return to Him.
O you who believe, fear Allah as He should be feared, and do not die except as Muslims, submitting to Him.
Quran 3:102
O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul, and from it created its mate, and from the two spread many men and women. Fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and be mindful of family ties. Indeed, Allah is ever watching over you.
Quran 4:1
O you who believe, fear Allah and speak words of appropriate truth. He will correct your deeds for you and forgive your sins. Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has achieved a great success.
Quran 33:70-71
First Khutbah
Brothers and sisters, we live in an age of information. A reminder can reach us before we even get out of bed. A lecture can play while we drive. A verse can appear on a screen. A hadith can be shared in a family group. We can hear lessons from scholars across the world. We can search an issue in seconds. These are blessings, and we should not be ungrateful for them.
But there is a question that should make every heart pause: Is all this information changing us?
A person may hear three reminders before breakfast and still speak harshly to the people in the house. A person may save hundreds of Islamic posts and still delay prayer. A person may know the ruling on backbiting and still enjoy the gathering where someone is being torn apart. A person may win an argument about religion and lose humility. A person may have information in the hand, information in the ear, information on the screen, but the heart remains almost untouched.
Allah did not send revelation merely to inform us. He sent it to bring us to life.
O you who believe, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.
Quran 8:24
The Quran is not only recited so that sounds enter the ear. It is recited so that guidance enters the heart, choices change, sins are left, duties are performed, families become calmer, business becomes cleaner, tongues become safer, and the servant becomes closer to Allah.
Information becomes transformation when it produces obedience. Information becomes transformation when it produces repentance. Information becomes transformation when it produces mercy toward people and awe before the Lord of people.
Islam honors knowledge. Allah taught His Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, to say:
My Lord, increase me in knowledge.
Quran 20:114
And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Whoever Allah intends good for, He gives him understanding of the religion.
Sahih al-Bukhari 71; Sahih Muslim 1037
So knowledge is not the enemy. Ignorance is dangerous. False information is dangerous. Speaking about Allah without knowledge is dangerous. But knowledge in Islam has a purpose. 'Ilm means knowledge, and 'amal means action. The two belong together. Knowledge is a light when it leads the servant to Allah. It becomes a burden when it is carried by the tongue but rejected by the limbs.
Allah describes true knowledge by its fruit:
Only those fear Allah, from among His servants, who have knowledge.
Quran 35:28
Notice the fruit: fear of Allah, awe of Allah, reverence for Allah. Not arrogance. Not showing off. Not looking down on others. Not collecting religious points to win debates. True knowledge softens the heart. True knowledge makes a person say: Allah sees me. Allah hears me. Allah will ask me. Allah has been patient with me. Allah is inviting me back.
This is why Allah warns us with words that every believer must take personally:
O you who have believed, why do you say what you do not do? Great is hatred in the sight of Allah that you say what you do not do.
Quran 61:2-3
This verse is not for us to throw at other people. It is a mirror. Before we say, those people are hypocritical, let us ask: What do I know that I am not living? What reminder has Allah sent me again and again? What truth do I repeat to others but delay applying to myself?
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave a statement that is both hopeful and frightening:
The Quran is a proof for you or against you.
Sahih Muslim 223
It is a proof for you when you recite it and follow it, when you learn it and humble yourself, when you hear its command and say, I will try, my Lord. It is a proof against a person when it is heard, recognized, admired, quoted, decorated, and then ignored.
Brothers and sisters, this is not a khutbah to make us despair. Despair is from Shaytan. This is a khutbah to wake us up with hope. The door of Allah is open. The problem is not that we have failed before. Every child of Adam falls short. The problem is when we become comfortable with hearing and not changing, knowing and not moving, remembering and not returning.
How does information become transformation?
First, begin with niyyah. Niyyah means intention: why am I seeking this knowledge? Why am I listening to this reminder? Why am I reading this verse? The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Actions are only by intentions.
Sahih al-Bukhari 1; Sahih Muslim 1907
Before opening a lecture, before scrolling through Islamic content, before attending a class, pause for a moment and say in your heart: O Allah, I am not here to collect information only. I am here to be guided. Show me what You want from me. Make this knowledge a proof for me, not against me.
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, sought refuge in Allah from knowledge that does not benefit.
O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit.
Sahih Muslim 2722
Knowledge that benefits is not always the knowledge that sounds new. Sometimes the most beneficial knowledge is the thing you already knew, but today you finally obeyed. You already knew Fajr is obligatory, but today you planned your sleep. You already knew the tongue is dangerous, but today you left the conversation. You already knew parents have rights, but today you called with patience. You already knew Allah accepts repentance, but today you made tawbah instead of drowning in shame.
Second, practice tadabbur. Tadabbur means reflection: to think deeply about what Allah is saying and what it requires from you. Allah says:
Then do they not reflect upon the Quran, or are there locks upon their hearts?
Quran 47:24
Sometimes the lock on the heart is not lack of access. The phone is full. The bookshelf is full. The ears are full. But the heart is locked by pride, by distraction, by love of sin, by anger, by addiction, by the need to always be entertained. Reflection breaks the speed. It says: slow down. This verse is speaking to me. This hadith is calling me. This reminder is not just content; it is a message.
Ask yourself after any reminder: What is one thing Allah is asking me to do? What is one thing Allah is asking me to leave? What is one right I owe to Allah or to His creation? Do not ask only, Was the speaker good? Was the clip powerful? Did I like the style? Ask: Did I respond?
Allah praises people of understanding as:
Those who listen to speech and follow the best of it. Those are the ones Allah has guided, and those are people of understanding.
Quran 39:18
They do not merely listen. They follow.
Third, make the action small enough to begin and sincere enough to continue. Shaytan has two tricks. If he cannot stop you from caring, he tries to make you delay until you can do everything perfectly. You hear a khutbah and say, from tomorrow I will change my entire life. Then tomorrow becomes heavy, and nothing changes. But the Sunnah teaches steady obedience. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
The most beloved deeds to Allah are those done regularly, even if they are few.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6464; Sahih Muslim 783
And he said:
When I command you to do something, do of it as much as you can.
Sahih al-Bukhari 7288; Sahih Muslim 1337
So do not underestimate one real action. One prayer protected. One apology made. One haram habit blocked. One debt repayment plan started. One page of Quran read with attention. One gathering of backbiting left. One child listened to without the phone in your hand. One spouse answered with gentleness instead of sarcasm. One private sin interrupted by saying, Allah is watching me and Allah is more beloved to me.
This is how a heart changes. Not through dramatic words only, but through repeated surrender.
Fourth, when you fail, return quickly. Transformation does not mean you never fall. It means you stop making peace with the fall. It means sin still hurts. It means you get up, seek forgiveness, repair what you can, and keep walking toward Allah.
Allah says:
Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
Quran 39:53
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, told us that Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than a person who finds his lost mount in a barren land.
Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than one of you when he finds his camel after he had lost it in the desert.
Sahih al-Bukhari 6309; Sahih Muslim 2747
So return. Do not say, I have heard too much and changed too little, so there is no hope for me. Say instead: Allah let me hear another reminder because He is still calling me. Allah allowed me to stand in Jumuah because He is still opening the door. Allah covered my sins until today because He is giving me time to come back.
Brothers and sisters, our homes do not need more Islamic words only; they need Islamic character. Our children do not need to see parents who share reminders but cannot say sorry. Our spouses do not need more lectures sent to them if we refuse to change ourselves. Our communities do not need louder slogans as much as cleaner hearts, truthful tongues, fulfilled trusts, protected prayers, and sincere repentance.
Let each of us ask today: What is the next piece of knowledge that must become action in my life? Not in someone else's life. In my life. What has Allah already taught me? What am I delaying?
May Allah make what we hear a light in our hearts and a change in our deeds. I say these words of mine, and I seek forgiveness from Allah for me and for you, so seek His forgiveness. Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds. We praise Him with the praise of the grateful. We seek His help and His forgiveness. I bear witness that there is no god worthy of worship except Allah alone, without partner, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. O Allah, send peace and blessings upon Muhammad, upon his family, his companions, and all who follow his guidance.
Servants of Allah, have taqwa of Allah. Be mindful of Him in private and in public, in what you learn and what you do, in what you post and what you hide, in what you say in the masjid and what you say at home.
Second Khutbah
The message today is simple: Allah did not give us information so that we could remain the same. He gave us guidance so that we could be guided. He gave us reminders so that we could remember. He gave us knowledge so that we could worship Him with sincerity and live with obedience.
A man came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and asked for a statement about Islam after which he would not need to ask anyone else. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
Say: I believe in Allah, then remain steadfast.
Sahih Muslim 38
Faith, then steadfastness. Belief, then a path. Words, then a life that tries to match those words.
For this coming week, let us take a practical challenge. Not a vague feeling. Not only, I should do better. Three clear actions, by Allah's help:
Turn one reminder into one action. Each time you listen to a khutbah, a lesson, a short reminder, or read a passage of Quran, ask before you move on: What is one action I will do within twenty-four hours? Write it down if you need to. Keep it small, real, and sincere.
Protect one obligation that you already know. Choose one duty you have delayed: praying on time, giving a right back, speaking truthfully, lowering the gaze, avoiding backbiting, honoring parents, or earning only what is halal. Do not wait for a new lecture. Act on the knowledge Allah has already given you.
Make five minutes of nightly muhasabah. Muhasabah means self-accounting. Before sleep, ask: What did Allah teach me today? Where did I obey? Where did I fall short? What do I need to repent from now? Then seek forgiveness and plan one better step for tomorrow.
Allah says:
O you who have believed, fear Allah. And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.
Quran 59:18
Look to tomorrow: the tomorrow of the grave, the tomorrow of standing before Allah, the tomorrow when every hidden thing becomes clear. But also look to tomorrow morning. What will change when you leave this masjid? What will your family notice? What will your angels record? What sin will lose its grip? What act of worship will begin?
May Allah make us people who hear and obey, learn and act, fall and repent, and continue until we meet Him while He is pleased with us.
O Allah, forgive the believing men and believing women, the Muslim men and Muslim women, the living among them and the deceased. O Allah, forgive our parents, our teachers, our spouses, our children, our families, and those who have rights over us.
O Allah, grant us beneficial knowledge, accepted deeds, sincere repentance, humble hearts, truthful tongues, and steadfastness upon Your religion. O Turner of the hearts, keep our hearts firm upon Your obedience. O Allah, make the Quran the spring of our hearts, the light of our chests, the remover of our sadness, and the reliever of our distress.
O Allah, guide our families and our youth. Protect them from confusion, temptation, despair, arrogance, addiction, and bad company. Make our homes places of prayer, mercy, modesty, trust, and remembrance. Repair what is broken between spouses, between parents and children, between relatives, and between Muslims.
O Allah, heal the sick, have mercy on the weak, relieve the distressed, comfort the grieving, free those trapped by anxiety and fear, provide for the poor, help the debtors repay their debts, and open a halal way out for everyone in hardship.
O Allah, aid the oppressed everywhere. Protect the innocent, feed the hungry, shelter the displaced, heal the wounded, and replace fear with safety and humiliation with dignity. O Allah, guide those in authority to justice, wisdom, and mercy. Protect our communities from corruption, violence, hatred, and trials, those that are apparent and those that are hidden.
O Allah, unite us upon truth, guidance, humility, and compassion. Do not make our differences a cause of hatred. Make us helpers of one another in righteousness and taqwa. Accept our prayers, our fasting, our charity, our repentance, our gatherings, and our Jumuah. Make what we have heard today a proof for us and not against us.
O Allah, give us good in this life and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire. O Allah, send peace and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, upon his family, and upon his companions.
Indeed, Allah commands justice, good conduct, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, bad conduct, and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded.
Quran 16:90
Remember Allah, and He will remember you. Thank Him, and He will increase you. Seek His forgiveness, and He will forgive you. Establish the prayer.
