Surah Ad-Dukhan (The Smoke)

حمٓ

44:1 Ha Meem.

وَٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ٱلْمُبِينِ

44:2 By the clear Book,

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَـٰهُ فِى لَيْلَةٍ مُّبَـٰرَكَةٍ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُنذِرِينَ

44:3 We sent it down on a blessed night. We have always warned.

فِيهَا يُفْرَقُ كُلُّ أَمْرٍ حَكِيمٍ

44:4 On that night every firm matter is set apart

أَمْرًا مِّنْ عِندِنَآ ۚ إِنَّا كُنَّا مُرْسِلِينَ

44:5 as a command from Us. We have always sent messengers

رَحْمَةً مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْعَلِيمُ

44:6 as mercy from your Lord. He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing,

رَبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَآ ۖ إِن كُنتُم مُّوقِنِينَ

44:7 Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, if you are certain.

لَآ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ يُحْىِۦ وَيُمِيتُ ۖ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ ءَابَآئِكُمُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

44:8 There is no god except Him. He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your earliest forefathers.

بَلْ هُمْ فِى شَكٍّ يَلْعَبُونَ

44:9 But they are in doubt, playing around.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ يَوْمَ تَأْتِى ٱلسَّمَآءُ بِدُخَانٍ مُّبِينٍ

44:10 So wait for the day when the sky brings a clear smoke

يَغْشَى ٱلنَّاسَ ۖ هَـٰذَا عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٌ

44:11 covering the people: “This is a painful punishment.

رَّبَّنَا ٱكْشِفْ عَنَّا ٱلْعَذَابَ إِنَّا مُؤْمِنُونَ

44:12 Our Lord, remove the punishment from us; we are believers.”

أَنَّىٰ لَهُمُ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ وَقَدْ جَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ مُّبِينٌ

44:13 How can the reminder help them now, when a clear messenger had already come to them?

ثُمَّ تَوَلَّوْا۟ عَنْهُ وَقَالُوا۟ مُعَلَّمٌ مَّجْنُونٌ

44:14 Then they turned away from him and said, “He is taught by someone. He is mad.”

إِنَّا كَاشِفُوا۟ ٱلْعَذَابِ قَلِيلًا ۚ إِنَّكُمْ عَآئِدُونَ

44:15 We will lift the punishment for a little while, but you will go back.

يَوْمَ نَبْطِشُ ٱلْبَطْشَةَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰٓ إِنَّا مُنتَقِمُونَ

44:16 On the Day We strike the great strike, We will take retribution.

۞ وَلَقَدْ فَتَنَّا قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمَ فِرْعَوْنَ وَجَآءَهُمْ رَسُولٌ كَرِيمٌ

44:17 Before them, We had already tested the people of Pharaoh, when a noble messenger came to them

أَنْ أَدُّوٓا۟ إِلَىَّ عِبَادَ ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّى لَكُمْ رَسُولٌ أَمِينٌ

44:18 saying, “Hand over to me the servants of Allah [God] [the Children of Israel]. I am a trustworthy messenger to you.

وَأَن لَّا تَعْلُوا۟ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ ۖ إِنِّىٓ ءَاتِيكُم بِسُلْطَـٰنٍ مُّبِينٍ

44:19 Do not exalt yourselves against Allah. I have come to you with clear authority.

وَإِنِّى عُذْتُ بِرَبِّى وَرَبِّكُمْ أَن تَرْجُمُونِ

44:20 I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, in case you stone me.

وَإِن لَّمْ تُؤْمِنُوا۟ لِى فَٱعْتَزِلُونِ

44:21 If you do not believe me, then leave me alone.”

فَدَعَا رَبَّهُۥٓ أَنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ قَوْمٌ مُّجْرِمُونَ

44:22 So he called on his Lord: “These are a guilty people.”

فَأَسْرِ بِعِبَادِى لَيْلًا إِنَّكُم مُّتَّبَعُونَ

44:23 Then set out with My servants by night. You will be pursued.

وَٱتْرُكِ ٱلْبَحْرَ رَهْوًا ۖ إِنَّهُمْ جُندٌ مُّغْرَقُونَ

44:24 And leave the sea calm. They are an army to be drowned.

كَمْ تَرَكُوا۟ مِن جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

44:25 How many gardens and springs they left behind,

وَزُرُوعٍ وَمَقَامٍ كَرِيمٍ

44:26 and fields and noble places,

وَنَعْمَةٍ كَانُوا۟ فِيهَا فَـٰكِهِينَ

44:27 and comforts they used to enjoy.

كَذَٰلِكَ ۖ وَأَوْرَثْنَـٰهَا قَوْمًا ءَاخَرِينَ

44:28 So it was, and We made it an inheritance for another people.

فَمَا بَكَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ وَٱلْأَرْضُ وَمَا كَانُوا۟ مُنظَرِينَ

44:29 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, and they were not given any delay.

وَلَقَدْ نَجَّيْنَا بَنِىٓ إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ مِنَ ٱلْعَذَابِ ٱلْمُهِينِ

44:30 We certainly saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment,

مِن فِرْعَوْنَ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ عَالِيًا مِّنَ ٱلْمُسْرِفِينَ

44:31 from Pharaoh. He was arrogant, one of the transgressors.

وَلَقَدِ ٱخْتَرْنَـٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ عَلَى ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

44:32 We certainly chose them, knowingly, above all peoples.

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔايَـٰتِ مَا فِيهِ بَلَـٰٓؤٌا۟ مُّبِينٌ

44:33 And We gave them signs that held a clear test.

إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَيَقُولُونَ

44:34 These people [the Meccan deniers] are saying,

إِنْ هِىَ إِلَّا مَوْتَتُنَا ٱلْأُولَىٰ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمُنشَرِينَ

44:35 “There is nothing beyond our first death, and we will not be raised again.

فَأْتُوا۟ بِـَٔابَآئِنَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ

44:36 So bring back our forefathers, if you are telling the truth.”

أَهُمْ خَيْرٌ أَمْ قَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ وَٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ ۚ أَهْلَكْنَـٰهُمْ ۖ إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ مُجْرِمِينَ

44:37 Are they better, or the people of Tubba and those before them? We destroyed them; they were guilty people.

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لَـٰعِبِينَ

44:38 We did not create the heavens and the earth and all that is between them as a game.

مَا خَلَقْنَـٰهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلْحَقِّ وَلَـٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَهُمْ لَا يَعْلَمُونَ

44:39 We created them only for a true purpose, but most of them do not know.

إِنَّ يَوْمَ ٱلْفَصْلِ مِيقَـٰتُهُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ

44:40 The Day of Decision is the appointed time for all of them,

يَوْمَ لَا يُغْنِى مَوْلًى عَن مَّوْلًى شَيْـًٔا وَلَا هُمْ يُنصَرُونَ

44:41 the day when no one close will be of any use to another, and they will not be helped,

إِلَّا مَن رَّحِمَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ

44:42 except those Allah has mercy on. He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful.

إِنَّ شَجَرَتَ ٱلزَّقُّومِ

44:43 The Zaqqum tree [a tree of Hell]

طَعَامُ ٱلْأَثِيمِ

44:44 is the food of the sinful,

كَٱلْمُهْلِ يَغْلِى فِى ٱلْبُطُونِ

44:45 like molten metal, boiling in bellies,

كَغَلْىِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

44:46 like scalding water boiling.

خُذُوهُ فَٱعْتِلُوهُ إِلَىٰ سَوَآءِ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

44:47 Seize him, and drag him into the middle of Hellfire.

ثُمَّ صُبُّوا۟ فَوْقَ رَأْسِهِۦ مِنْ عَذَابِ ٱلْحَمِيمِ

44:48 Then pour over his head the punishment of scalding water.

ذُقْ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْكَرِيمُ

44:49 Taste it. You were the mighty, the noble!

إِنَّ هَـٰذَا مَا كُنتُم بِهِۦ تَمْتَرُونَ

44:50 This is what you used to doubt.

إِنَّ ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ فِى مَقَامٍ أَمِينٍ

44:51 The mindful will be in a secure place,

فِى جَنَّـٰتٍ وَعُيُونٍ

44:52 among gardens and springs,

يَلْبَسُونَ مِن سُندُسٍ وَإِسْتَبْرَقٍ مُّتَقَـٰبِلِينَ

44:53 wearing fine silk and thick silk, facing one another.

كَذَٰلِكَ وَزَوَّجْنَـٰهُم بِحُورٍ عِينٍ

44:54 So it will be. And We will pair them with companions with beautiful eyes.

يَدْعُونَ فِيهَا بِكُلِّ فَـٰكِهَةٍ ءَامِنِينَ

44:55 There they will call for every kind of fruit, safe and secure.

لَا يَذُوقُونَ فِيهَا ٱلْمَوْتَ إِلَّا ٱلْمَوْتَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ۖ وَوَقَىٰهُمْ عَذَابَ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

44:56 They will not taste death there, except the first death. And He will protect them from the punishment of Hellfire,

فَضْلًا مِّن رَّبِّكَ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ هُوَ ٱلْفَوْزُ ٱلْعَظِيمُ

44:57 a bounty from your Lord. That is the great success.

فَإِنَّمَا يَسَّرْنَـٰهُ بِلِسَانِكَ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَذَكَّرُونَ

44:58 We have made this Quran easy in your language, so that they may take heed.

فَٱرْتَقِبْ إِنَّهُم مُّرْتَقِبُونَ

44:59 So wait. They too are waiting.
