Surah Al-Mutaffifin (The Defrauding)

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

83:1 Woe to those who give less than what is due,

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ

83:2 who, when they take measure from people, take it in full,

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

83:3 but when they measure or weigh for them, they shortchange them.

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ

83:4 Do those people not think they will be raised

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

83:5 for a tremendous Day,

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ

83:6 the Day people will stand before the Lord of all worlds?

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ

83:7 No indeed. The record of the wicked is in Sijjin.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

83:8 And what could make you know what Sijjin is?

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

83:9 A written record.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

83:10 Woe that Day to the deniers,

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

83:11 those who deny the Day of Judgment.

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

83:12 No one denies it except every sinful transgressor.

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَـٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَـٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

83:13 when Our verses are recited to him, he says, “Stories of the ancients.”

كَلَّا ۖ بَلْ ۜ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

83:14 No. Rather, what they used to earn has rusted over their hearts.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

83:15 No. That Day, they will be shut away from their Lord.

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

83:16 Then they will burn in Hellfire.

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَـٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

83:17 Then it will be said, “This is what you used to deny.”

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَـٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ

83:18 No. The record of the righteous is surely in Illiyyin.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

83:19 And what could make you know what Illiyyin is?

كِتَـٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

83:20 A written record,

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

83:21 witnessed by those brought near.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ

83:22 The righteous will surely be in bliss,

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

83:23 on couches, looking on.

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

83:24 You will see on their faces the radiance of bliss.

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

83:25 They will be given a sealed, pure wine to drink,

خِتَـٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ ۚ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَـٰفِسُونَ

83:26 its seal will be musk. For this, let people compete.

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

83:27 It will be mixed with Tasneem,

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

83:28 a spring from which those brought near will drink.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ

83:29 Indeed, the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

83:30 and when they passed by them, they would wink at one another,

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ

83:31 and when they returned to their families, they returned joking,

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ

83:32 and when they saw them, they said, “These people are truly lost.”

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَـٰفِظِينَ

83:33 Yet they had not been sent as guardians over them.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

83:34 So today, those who believed will laugh at the disbelievers,

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

83:35 on couches, looking on.

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ

83:36 Have the disbelievers been repaid for what they used to do?
