Surah Ash-Shams (The Sun)

وَٱلشَّمْسِ وَضُحَىٰهَا

91:1 By the sun and its morning brightness,

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا تَلَىٰهَا

91:2 and by the moon when it follows it,

وَٱلنَّهَارِ إِذَا جَلَّىٰهَا

91:3 and by the day when it reveals it,

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا يَغْشَىٰهَا

91:4 and by the night when it covers it,

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَمَا بَنَىٰهَا

91:5 and by the sky and the One who built it,

وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَمَا طَحَىٰهَا

91:6 and by the earth and the One who spread it,

وَنَفْسٍ وَمَا سَوَّىٰهَا

91:7 and by the soul and the One who shaped it,

فَأَلْهَمَهَا فُجُورَهَا وَتَقْوَىٰهَا

91:8 then made it aware of its wickedness and its restraint:

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّىٰهَا

91:9 the one who purifies it has truly succeeded,

وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّىٰهَا

91:10 and the one who buries it has truly failed.

كَذَّبَتْ ثَمُودُ بِطَغْوَىٰهَآ

91:11 Thamud [the people of Salih] denied the truth in their rebellion,

إِذِ ٱنۢبَعَثَ أَشْقَىٰهَا

91:12 when their worst man rose up.

فَقَالَ لَهُمْ رَسُولُ ٱللَّهِ نَاقَةَ ٱللَّهِ وَسُقْيَـٰهَا

91:13 Allah [God]’s Messenger said to them, “Leave Allah’s she-camel, and let her drink.”

فَكَذَّبُوهُ فَعَقَرُوهَا فَدَمْدَمَ عَلَيْهِمْ رَبُّهُم بِذَنۢبِهِمْ فَسَوَّىٰهَا

91:14 But they called him a liar and cut her down. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and made it fall on them all alike.

وَلَا يَخَافُ عُقْبَـٰهَا

91:15 And He does not fear its consequences.
